She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University and a Master of Science degree in nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from The University of Virginia. Karen is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in Family Practice and is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Karen has over 30 years of healthcare experience with 25 years of experience providing care to patients with acute and chronic mental illnesses. Karen is passionate about educating the community on the importance of good mental health. She is committed to working diligently to improve access to mental health services while dispelling the stigma surrounding mental health. Karen’s hobbies include traveling, reading, listening to music, and spending time with her family.

Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases), she went back to earn a Master’s in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2003). After providing care in a county jail, working in long term care and then transitioning to psychiatry, she attended the University of Tennessee at Memphis and earned a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (2011). Leslie is a member of the American Nurse’s Association, the Association of Psychiatric Nurses and the North Carolina Nurse’s Association. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society. Leslie has over 27 years of patient care experience as a nurse and 20 years of
patient care experience as a nurse practitioner. Leslie is passionate about helping others to achieve their personal goals: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Leslie values and encourages self-determination, self-affirmation and
self-actualization. She uses evidence based, patient centered strategies to tailor individualized treatment plans to promote success in life, family and work. Fueled by a passion to help as many people as possible, Leslie provides mental health care for patients of all ages. Leslie enjoys spending time with her children, family and friends and watching her husband coach football. She values self-care and enjoys relaxing by the water and reading a good book.
She likes to remain physically fit and has been called a “gym rat”. Wherever she is and no matter what she is doing, her focus is on changing lives and building communities.
